Kolkata Police have recovered ₹32.5 lakh during a raid in Durgapur near Mandirtala as part of the ongoing investigation into the ₹2.66 crore robbery on May 5 near Park Circus on CIT Road. With this recovery, the total seized amount has reached ₹1.48 crore. So far, nine individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
Earlier, five suspects—Sanjib Das alias Pocha, Mohammad Sarfaraz alias Sonu, Riju Hazra, Shahrukh SK, and Alamgir Khan—were apprehended from different locations. Based on statements from Sanjib Das and Alamgir Khan, police recovered ₹26 lakh from the residence of Shailen and ₹3 lakh from Alamgir Khan’s home in Topsia Road, Tiljala. Both sums have been seized by the authorities and are part of the total recovered cash.
The robbery involved forcibly taking cash from a taxi on CIT Road. The police have not released details about the origin or purpose of the cash or the motive behind the crime. The investigation continues to trace the remaining ₹1.18 crore, with suspects in custody and further raids underway.
